Uummannaq Fjord

Ice melt in the Uummannaq Fjord in Greenland is seen in this Overview. The edges of Greenland’s ice sheet melt every summer; however, because the sheet is steepest at the edge, and flatter towards the middle, the warming of summer exposes a larger area of ice to melting every year. This particular Fjord is the second largest in eastern Greenland behind the Kangertittivaq Fjord.
Nusa Penida

Two secluded beaches are seen on the island of Nusa Penida, located off the southeastern coast of Bali. The island has come to be the unofficial bird sanctuary for numbers of endangered Balinese and Indonesian bird species, most notably the Bali Starlin.
Sheep's Meadow

Glacier melt

Hundreds of tiny streams caused by glacier melt, merge together in the southern region of Iceland to form an outlet into the North Atlantic Ocean. Rising lava, steam vents, or newly opened hot springs can all cause this rapid ice melt, leading to a sizable release of water that picks up sediment as it flows down from the glaciers.
Villarrica

Villarrica, a volcano in the Chilean Central Valley, is one of the few volcanoes in the world with a lava lake in its crater. Rising 2,860 m (9,380 ft), Villarrica covers an area of 400 square kilometers. The volcano’s most recent serious eruption was in 2015, which caused the evacuation of thousands of people in nearby communities.
Caiji Co

Alta Wind Energy Center

The facility plans to reduce carbon dioxide emission by more then 5.2 million metric tons over the next 25 years, which is roughly the same as eliminating 446,000 cars off the road.

The Kufra Basin

The Kufra Basin in the Sahara Desert of Libya is one of the most heavily irrigated oases in the world. The Libyan government enacted a plan in the 1970’s to enable agricultural cultivation in the desert by extracting water from the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System, a non-renewable source of fossil water located beneath the surface. Because the area receives only one inch of rain per year, the aquifer is now nearly dried up.
Sand patterns in Salta

Sand patterns are seen here in Salta, Argentina. Salta is situated 3780 feet above sea level in the northwest part of the country. The palette of colors in the sand is caused for a variety of reasons. The red occurs from large amounts of iron in the sand that have broken down, and stained the sand a rust color. The black presumably occurs following volcanic activity. The white seen in this Overview is snow covering the tops of the mountains.
Cuajone Mine

The Cuajone Mine is located near the district of Torata, in the southern range of the Peruvian Andes. The mine is best known for its copper deposits, but other materials such as silver, zinc, and molybdenum have been extracted from it as well. Operations began in 1970, and by 2009 accounted for 16% of the country's copper production.
