What do you think is happening in this Overview? From our perspective, it looks like someone got excited while driving a road-striping truck. Regardless of how it happened, this vibrant display is found on the grounds of the former St. George Municipal Airport in St. George, Utah. Now closed, the facility was used for general aviation from 1972 until it was replaced by another airport in 2011. Head over to our Instagram and let us know your best guess in the comments!

The Stelvio Pass in northern Italy is the highest paved roadway in the Eastern Alps, with an elevation of 2,757 meters (9,045 feet) above sea level. Only accessible in the summer months, the road and its 75 hairpin turns are sometimes scaled during the famous Giro d’Italia cycling race.

Swanson Dock is an international shipping facility on the north bank of the Yarra River in Melbourne, Australia. It and several other docks make up the Port of Melbourne, one of Australia’s largest ports for containerized and general cargo. Swanson Dock East has a berth length of 2,900 feet (884 m), six container cranes and 99 acres (40 hectares) of container storage, while Swanson Dock West has 3,097 feet (944 m) of wharves, seven cranes and 84 acres (34 hectares) of storage space.

Designed in the 1960’s, Tampa International Airport's Landside/Airside design was the first of its type in the world. In this layout, baggage and ticketing functions take place in a central "Landside Terminal” which is surrounded by four “Airside” satellite terminals where planes embark and disembark.

This Overview captures cargo ships and tankers moving through Tanjung Perak, the main port in Surabaya, Indonesia. Recent expansion and dredging here has deepened the waters to 16 meters (52.5 feet) and enabled a larger generation of containers ships to pass through safely. The facility’s principal exports are sugar, tobacco, and coffee.

To continue my selection of favorite Overviews from 2015, I’m excited to repost this one of the Terminal de Autobuses de Pasajeros de Oriente - a major bus terminal in Mexico City, Mexico. Commonly known as TAPO, the dome-covered structure accommodates more than 10,000 passengers per day traveling to fourteen states throughout the country.

Independence Avenue encircles a section of the Tidal Basin Reservoir in Washington, D.C. Originally named South B Street, this major roadway was constructed between 1791 and 1823 and passes by many of the city’s monuments, including the U.S. Capitol Building, Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. In the spring, it is also a popular route for viewing Washington D.C.’s cherry blossoms, some of which can be seen in this Overview.

Yrausquin Airport, which has the shortest commercial runway in the world at 1,312 feet (400 m) long. With a land area of just 5 square miles (13 square km) and about 2,000 inhabitants, Saba is the smallest territory by permanent population in the Americas.
